her husband gone, in the wars last throws
i saw her last week, walking in the rain
old mac, umbrella and face in pain
drips falling down over her haggard face
she can’t see herself lasting this race
if only she weren’t so lonely and alone
if only young bob had come back home
so many years have gone by so fast
she barely remembers his face from the past
reported as MIA, then KIA in WW1
she loves him still, when alls said and done
melancholy has caused her joy to corrode
you know that woman who walks pigeon toed
sad, Dicky.
ReplyDeleteLonely AND alone. A terrible combination.
Oh, so sad. Yet quite lovely. Poor old woman carries a heavy load, whilst she ambles pigeon toed.
