I always feel a slight sense of relief when December 21st
arrives each year. Someone referred to
it once as “halfway through the darkness” and I've got to quite like that
description. But of course; Winter
Solstice may not happen ever again if the Mayan’s are
to be believed. Apparently the Mayan calendar ends today and that is enough for the doomsayers to predict a cataclysmic extinction event on our little planet. Has anyone considered the Mayan calendar might end today because the poor guy working out the calendars couldn’t be bothered to do anymore than 3000 years in advance?

Yea for December 21. More daylight, it the sun is shining.
ReplyDeleteAmen. I share your relief with the solstice, especially since this time of year I do not get direct sunlight on my house.
ReplyDeleteAnd on the twenty-second, somebody's going to look awful foolish...
It seems like dooms day prediction is the new trend, there are more of them these days or maybe I'm just losing track after five. There must be something to your theory about not wanting to bother after a certain point.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand these Mayans. Why would anyone make a calender extending centuries into the future? No wonder their civilisation collapsed.
ReplyDeleteOh the Mayans and their excessive cocaine habits!
ReplyDeleteI'm still holding out for the Apocalypse. It's still the 21st here, and I really don't want to go to work tomorrow and face those Christmas shoppers....
