| Yes it's a David Brent tattoo! Why oh why? |
The monthly marketing meeting sank to a new low today (as if that could be possible) after I invited a direct mail company to come in and give us some advice. As soon as I went down to reception to meet the two chaps I knew it would go badly. One of the guys (I’ll call him Ian) was so young that I’m sure I saw him delivering the newspapers earlier that morning. Definitely not at the shaving age yet, his suit looked like a hand-me-down from an uncle. The other chap I need not describe too much. Anyone who has seen the sitcom ‘The Office’ will know the main character David Brent. Up we go to the conference room where ‘Ian and David’ spent an hour trying to sell their ‘business model’ (God I hate that phrase). Brent came across like a second hand car salesman. Very confident,
which quickly grated on me because I’m not very confident. He tried so hard in his pink shirt and matching spotty tie while my MD stifled a yawn. As I sat there studying Brent and daydreaming, I could fully imagine him being the sort of bloke to go to a strip club, stuffing fivers down the front of random girls knickers.

Hi Dicky, I like the statement "Very confident,
ReplyDeletewhich quickly grated on me because I’m not very confident". I know exactly what you mean. I too can't stand too much confidence from anyone - it smacks of arrogance and one-upmanship :)
Don't get me wrong though Joe, I would love to be confident, I'm just not. I'm surprised you say your not as you play live music. I could never do that!
DeleteThere is a VERY fine line between confidence and arrogance
ReplyDeleteYes there is, and the guy in my tale crossed it.
