Answer: Wearing headphones is my way of hiding from the world. I listen to a podcast, music, and even the radio, if I can stand the pointless adverts. Most of the time though, there is just silence. On a cold windy day like today all I wanted on my walk to work, were my own thoughts. The headphones block the sound of suburbia, leaving me in my own private bubble. Today though, the whistling noise of the north wind has forced melancholy into my brain, and now it’s hard to clear.
A lonely 100, Dicky. I can relate. I have a half hour track of thunder and rain, just to block out the noise of the world. It's very peaceful.
ReplyDeleteEven ear buds change perception of reality. But a warm scarf around your ears probably would have made a difference to your whole day. Just saying. And I hate that little phrase.
ReplyDeleteSometimes my house feels too quiet, so I turn on the TV (or something like it) to break the silence. A reverse headphone in a way.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's rather nice to be able to block out the sounds of everyday life...
ReplyDeleteA lovely but sad 100 words.
ReplyDeleteI often find myself leaving my apartment and placing the earphones in my ears, only to realize that nothing's actually been playing on my way to work. Silence is sometimes the best. It muffles the world.
ReplyDeleteI so can relate - nice 100 Dicky :)
